Since joining Hammerson in 1989, Jon has been responsible for managing many of our principal developments including many in the City of London. After taking an MBA at Henley Management College, Jon was responsible for the award winning development of the 65,000m2 retail and leisure centre at The Oracle, Reading which completed in 2001.
Jon was Project Director responsible for Bullring, Birmingham on behalf of the Birmingham Alliance, a joint venture between Hammerson, Land Securities and Henderson Global Investors. The £750 million retail led regeneration project was the largest in Europe when completed in 2003, creating 1.2 million square feet of new retail space and 250 residential apartments, creating over 6000 new jobs. The centre was opened in September 2003 and has won over 40 awards worldwide and attracted over 36 million visitors in its first year.
In January 2004 joined Hammerson’s Investment Committee. In March 2005 Jon was appointed Head of UK Development and Construction and became a Director of the UK Board. The current development programme is extensive and includes major retail led mixed use regeneration projects underway in Bristol, Leicester and Aberdeen and planned for Sheffield, Leeds, Kingston upon Thames, Peterborough and office projects in the City of London including the redevelopment of the London Stock Exchange tower due for completion in December 2007.
In January 2007, Jon was appointed Managing Director UK Development responsible for all UK Development and Construction activities within the UK and Hammersons CR programme with specific responsibility for environmental matters.
