John Haymes is a Chartered Surveyor and East Yorkshire man. Educated at Hymers College in Hull and at Sheffield Polytechnic, his career commenced as a surveyor in the private sector followed by 12 years as Hull City Council's Industrial Estates Officer. In 1989 he joined the regional office of English Estates and in 1994 was subsumed into English Partnerships as Senior Development Executive. Following further subsumation into Yorkshire Forward, he was appointed Head of Land and Property in December 1999 and in April 2001, he took up the position as Head of Humber leading a multi-discipline team responsible for the inception and delivery of Yorkshire Forward's investment in the sub-region. In January 2003 John was appointed Development Director of Hull Citybuild, the City’s Urban Regeneration Company. Now as Director of Property Development at Hull Forward, he leads a team of development and planning professionals who are spearheading the regeneration of Hull’s City Centre.
His extensive property development experience includes complex joint ventures on major projects such as Glasshoughton (former colliery site near Castleford now a successful retail, residential and leisure development), new business parks at Normanby Enterprise Park (former steelworks in Scunthorpe) Europarc in Grimsby and at Kingswood in Hull; science parks at Bradford, Sheffield and Hull (Newlands) and numerous office, industrial and residential schemes across Yorkshire. John also has extensive experience of community and voluntary sector initiatives and multi-agency working.
John is particularly passionate about urban regeneration and especially about securing the renaissance of the City of Hull. Married with two children, John is a school governor and his interests include rugby league, golf and the countryside.
