Prof. Dr. Remko van Hoek joined Cofely in the Netherlands as Chief Procurement Officer in March 2009, Cofely is part of GDF Suez. Prior to that he was CPO at Nuon, a 6 billion Euro utility based in the Netherlands. In addition to generating year on year 30 million or more Euro's in savings, a 90% contract coverage and the development of a top talent bench Prof. Dr. van Hoek has lead the organization through a major upgrading and purchasing excellence effort. As a result of that program the purchasing organization was graded best in industry and world class in the strategic, capability and leadership area by McKinsey in November 2008.
In addition to his corporate role Prof. Dr. van Hoek is also a visiting professor of supply chain management at the Cranfield School of Management in the UK and has been a full professor at the Cranfield School of Management prior to that. He has also taught at the Rotterdam School of Management in the Netherlands and the University of Ghent/Vlerick School of Management, Belgium.
Before joining Nuon Prof. Dr. van Hoek was a supply chain improvement director with Nike and prior to that he was managing director at the Corporate Executive Board in Washington DC where he built and ran business units that served over 500 heads of supply chain and procurement organizations of the world's most prominent companies.
Prof. Dr. van Hoek serves on the Board of Directors of CSCMP and is a co-author of the best seller Logistics Management and Strategy textbook, published by Financial Times Publishing and translated into seven languages. Prof. Dr. van Hoek serves on several editorial boards of international academic journals and is a frequent speaker in Boardrooms and executive events. He has won 10 awards for his academic work in the supply chain domain and is a frequently published author.
