About the study tour
The Estates Gazette European Industrial & Distribution Summit 2009 also features an unique opportunity to visit Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and experience first-hand the operations and facilities as part of a guided tour, sponsored by Savills and in partnership with Schiphol Group and AMB Property Corporation.
These two tours, sponsored by Savills, will take place at the end of day 2. We have split the tour into two parts, giving delegates the opportunity of choosing one tour only. Places are limited and strictly on a first come first served basis.
Study Tour One (20 places)
Delegates will be taken on a tour round Schiphol Airport’s World Cargo Southeast centre that had a throughput of 1.57m tonnes of air cargo in 2008. This makes Schiphol Airport the third largest air cargo hub in Continental Europe. The study tour will stop at the latest addition at Schiphol Real Estate’s Cargo World Schiphol-Southeast development.
Panalpina, one of the largest freight forwarders in Continental Europe is the latest air cargo handler to move to a new facility at Cargo World Southeast. Delegates will have a tour round Panalpina’s new10,000m2 cargo handling centre that has direct apron access and was opened earlier this year.
Delegates will hear from Schiphol Real estate how it has created facilities for air cargo handlers and airlines that provide seamless airside, customs clearance and despatch through one building. Delegates will also hear about how Schiphol Real Estate is developing its vision of creating a world-class air cargo facility at the airport. Panalpina will explain to delegates its strategy to develop its global forwarding business using the new Schiphol hub.
Study Tour 2 (50 places)
Delegates will be taken on a tour round the AMB Fokker Logistics Park. It is the largest privately owned, airport adjacent, master planned logistics park in Continental Europe. Phase one already is 98% occupied by clients including Air France-KLM, Agility, Kerry Logistics, Intel, Deutsche Post World Net and Schenker.
AMB Property Corporation, a leading global developer will explain to delegates how it has committed to develop a further 10 hectares for the second phase development at the AMB Fokker Logistics Park adjacent to Schiphol Airport. Delegates will leave with an understanding of how this brownfield development on the former Fokker Aircraft factory site has been transformed into a major distribution park. AMB will explain how the once contaminated land has been re-developed using sustainable redevelopment techniques and will eventually have available 1.7m square feet of highly efficient distribution facilities.
AMB will also explain how it used sustainable design and construction guidelines, at the Fokker Logistics Park with many of the old buildings’ components re-used on site or at other developments. Sustainable energy efficient design elements are also incorporated including high efficiency lighting and heating systems, extensive use of materials that allow rainwater to be absorbed on site and ‘heat island’ effects have also been reduced.
Delegates will finally hear from AMB how phase two is progressing.
This is free to attend for all delegates, but spaces are limited so book early. Please email melinda.park@rbi.co.uk with the name of the tour you wish to go on.
